I'm going to make this clear from the get-go: I don't like Tom Brady. Last year, I called for his head on another blog. He's overrated ... he needs to be humbled. Quite frankly, I wish he'd disappear. But since he isn't, his baby-mama issue needs to be addressed. Especially since no one possesses the balls or ovaries to do it.
So far, the athletes mentioned on this blog in its short history, Darren McFadden, Kobe Bryant, Stephon Marbury, have been scolded for their off-the-field philandering. I wasn't the first and will not be the last. But the one person that's getting away with having a baby out of wedlock is Tom Brady.
He didn't do anything different from what Shawn Kemp does on a bi-annual basis. It's not a race issue because Matt Leinart's prostate was set on fire by the media when word came out about his illegitimate child.
Here's the back story:
Brady, who just turned 30, dated Moynahan for nearly three years. Often during the couple's courtship, Moynahan made it clear she'd like to have children. Brady, a three-time Super Bowl champ who grew up in northern California, was not so explicit about his interest in having a family.
In February, a few days after the New York Post first reported the pregnancy, Brady's agent, Don Yee, issued a statement saying his client was "excited" about becoming a dad. Since then, the star QB has been mostly mum on the subject, and Yee didn't return a phone call yesterday.
Not long after the couple's breakup, which was announced in mid-December, Brady began dating Gisele Bundchen, the world's richest supermodel and the former girlfriend of actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Since the end of last football season, Brady and his Brazilian beauty have been photographed at fashion events in London, Milan, and Versailles. The two are also routinely snapped strolling hand-in-hand down the streets of New York, where both have plush apartments. [Source]
So how does Tom Brady get away with this? Simple ... its the Brett Favre Theory
Brett Favre is the most slurped-on quarterback on league history. Dude used to be a pill-punisher and an alcoholic. But by the way people cling to him, you wouldn't know it.
You wouldn't know any of this about Tom Brady because he's never called out about it. He's the Teflon Don when it comes to criticism in the NFL. Now, if Tom takes care of his responsibilities ... cool, whatever. But what Tom did is no different from what any of these other bad dudes do: he slept with someone unprotected and had a baby. Point. Break. Period. It wouldn't be fair to go at one person if you can't go at them all.

Couple of corrections. Favre WAS a pill pusher and an alcholic. He has turned his life around and isn't drinking or taking pain pills. So not sure where this criticsm of Favre is coming from? Are you a Viking fan?
It is not a fair comparison to compare Brady and Favre. Favre got a girl pregnant, but dated her and married her and now they are happily married with another daughter as well. Favre didn't run away from his pregnant girlfriend. In fact, she is the one who almost kicked him out because of his alcoholic lifestyle.
I agree that it's fair to compare Brady to Kemp or Karl Malone or others. That is fine. But there is no reason to even mention Brett Favre's name. Having announcers excuse his interceptions as "just having fun" is a lot different than having children out of marriage.
Fair is a pretty subjective term....Did you read the post? Monyahan, a C-list actress at best (not as important), in her late 30s wanted to have kids, and Brady did not. They break up and several weeks later she comes out as pregnant. Is it possible that she "forgot" her birth control so she could have a kid (and some of Brady's Superbowl millions that go with it)? Is it possible that she got pissed Brady moved up to a fine piece like Gisele?
The Farve apologists in this world will never take a day off. So you are calling out 'jealous' Viking fans? Where do your allegiances lie exactly?
Yes I read the post. I perceived the post as meaning Brady gets away with having a baby out of wedlock because he is Brady, meanwhile other athletes are ridiculed publicly for having children out of wedlock or multiple children/multiple mothers.
I don't think it's fair that you blame Monahan for being pregnant. it wasn't her sperm that conceived the child, correct?
The fact that you call Gisele a fine piece tells me what kind of man you are anyway.
Back to the point of my comment, why bring up Favre's name? He has nothing to do with this situation.
LMAO @ Karl's "what kind of man you are anyway" line. Uh....OK.
Brady's son came about after a three year relationship with his girlfriend. Comparing that scenario with Shawn Kemp's is at best disingenuous and at worst, flat-out stupid.
As for Favre, 280+ career interceptions = overrated and WAY overhyped.
The original poster has let his Brady hatred taint his reason. Brady dated Mr. Big's ex-wife for several years. She got pregnant at the end of their relationship. There's no evidence that he's not supporting the child. That is a far cry from Sean Kemp's behavior. The only conceivable criticism could be that he went on to have a very public relationship with another famous person. But what is he supposed to do? Stop dating anyone because his ex-girlfriend got preggers? If you broke up with your long-term girlfriend, learned she got pregnant one of the last few times you guys did it, and then was told that a Victoria's Secret model wanted to be your new girlfriend, would you say no? I doubt it.
Thus, the comparison to Favre's boozing and drug-abuse is inapt because (A) Brady's behavior is not worthy of serious criticism, and (B) Favre's substance abuse wasn't public knowledge. It only became public when he admitted his problem, and went to rehab. He then got to frame it as a "I was struggling with demons, but I've overcome them" bit, which Americans will always love. Since he's been clean since then, and continued to perform pretty well and be very entertaining, it plays as great PR. That said, I am a Packer stockholder, but even I agree that the national media are far too adoring of him. But I blame their laziness and myopia, not Favre.
The comment that Favre is somehow overrated as a player is both ridiculous and irrelevant to the post.
Even the liberal MSM has a problem with "pulling the goalie." Although they would never criticize her!
The biggest differences between Brady and the other turkey basters has more to do with their media coverage and the PR teams. Kemp et.al. receive criticism for their off-the-field lives. Brady got back-slapped and praised for his "studliness" when the world found out about him dating Bundchen while Moynahan was pregnant. Within a month of the pregnancy confirmation, Brady was signing endorsement deals surely relating to his jump tabloid fame. He signed those deals before the Pats signed Randy Moss, several years since the Pats had won a superbowl. Brady didn't rate a studly iconic ad like Stetson even when he was SB MVP the second time. He signed that deal amid rumors that Bundchen was pregnant also. Moynahan was still pregnant when he signed the fake Gatoraide ad (remember those "hot" shots of him shirtless, and soaking?). Yes, what a humble guy who just wants his privacy. While most sports media outlets would portray Kemp, etc in a negative manner due to their off-the-field situations, Brady has always been given a free pass. Everyone assumes he's paying child support, though Moynahan can certainly raise a child comfortably on her own, and no reports of child support have been made. Moynahan started modeling again 6 months after her child was born, doing an ad that some thought was "beneath" her. Obviously, she's not sitting at home collecting checks. She's constantly harrassed by paparazzi, though Brady was known for his LACK of media coverage when he was with her. He changed all that by stepping out so quickly following the break-up, with a rather "exposed" model who was notorious for using her sex life to help her career (DiCaprio, anyone?). By doing that, Brady essentially assured a tabloid scandal, and he'd been around the media long enough to know would happen: he immediately was lauded in the sports media for his tabloid lifestyle, and endorsements he'd never seen before started rolling in. The fact that he was with Moynahan so long just makes it more disgusting. He turned his own child's birth into a tabloid scandal, which is something even Kemp did not do. Brady is going to end up getting paid more for this scandal than he's ever going to be required to pay in child support, if he's paying anything. There's a name for people who use their sex lives for money, but Brady is breaking new ground. What do you call someone who cashes in on their illegitimate child?
