Happy Father's Day!: The Perfect Day to End This Blog ...

There were two reasons why I started this blog: One, because I was bored out of my mind and two, because I thought this blog would have a purpose. The purpose of calling out certain individuals who do not take care of their responsibilities. While it's a noble one, I realize that I am not the person to do it.

My Godson is almost two. He's the cutest thing on the planet;I love him to death. Unfortunately, his father is not in his life. I channeled the anger I felt for that dude into this blog because I felt ~~men~~ boys like him needed to be checked.

But I could never muster up the energy to be a hater. It's hard to hate something that makes itself sooo easy to hate especially when you know situations that some athletes get into can be prevented.

After the whole Jena 6 drama/situation/ordeal, I noticed that my Brothers and Sisters were participating in reactive behavior. Ten of thousands of people didn't care about these six boys before their actions got them in jail but now all of sudden, it's a problem that Black men are going through the revolving door of the criminal justice system. Wearing black t-shirts and collecting sneakers (thanks Temple U. *smh*) during "Jena 6 month" made some people feel better about looking dirty at a group of Black boys when they are walking down the street ... made some people feel better about letting their schools deteriorate while they drive past in their luxury cars ... made some peoeple feel better for supporting that one Black boy that makes it to the NBA while they let the other millions who aren't as fortunate, struggle to find a life without a basketball. If we as a people gave a damn sometimes, things could be entirely different.

Last night, I watched "The Education of Ms. Groves", a one-year look at a first-year middle school teacher inside an urban school. They profiled these two boys ... one who lost both of his parents and was living with his grandmother and the other who lived inside of a hotel room with his mother and his five siblings waiting for their chance to find an habitable place to call home. Because the teacher gave a damn and she encourages those two boys, one made the honor roll while the other made the Gifted and Talented program at the school. She gave a damn about their futures.

Sorry I went on a tangent but my point is that this blog falls under that reactive category. Kurking out on men who don't take care of their babies is not going to fix the real problems we have with sexuality in this society. I was a teenager; I know what it's like out here. Adults, for some reason, act like they don't have a clue. That's why I plan to be proactive.

I've realized that I'm part of a fortunate group: African-American women who grew up with their fathers. Yes, my Dad came off as a over-protective fool during my teenage years but he did it because he knew what was out there. Yes, my Dad almost beat up this boy I used to talk to while we were inside of a Verizon store... but he almost did it because he knew this dude disrespected me. Yes, my father almost threatened my life because he had this slight inclination that I was wildin' out in the streets but he did it because he knew I was too smart, too talented and too promising to mess up.

There were days when I wanted to choke my father (there still are -- three times this week, true story) for "ruining my life" but I realize that I was fortunate to have a father who gave a damn about me and how I ran my life. He let me mess up so I could learn from my mistakes. He actually let me have some type of life in high school because he knew I needed to build a social life. He let boys call the house -- still stunned about that to this day -- because he knew that was a normal part of life.

So when I look at these boys -- yes, boys because men take care of their seeds -- who do not take care of their children, it pisses me off. Do you realize what you are missing out in your life? Do you realize that your absence has an effect on your child, whether you like it or not. Do you realize that you have a bigger responsibilty in this world than yourself? Your son or daugther needs you ...

If I can prevent one girl from laying on her back when she isn't ready, my life would be complete. There are alot of girls who don't have that watchful eye, that one person that can talk to about sex and relationships and get some REAL answers. Same goes for Black boys as well. In retrospect, would you have gone to your homeboys for answers knowing they did not know s***? Exactly ... no! Boys need an open forum to discuss these things too.

So as I close out this blog, I thank the 75 of you who continued to come to this blog (much respect LOL!), Deadspin for the feature (Daulerio, much respect) and my father, for making me realize that I have gifts to give to a young girl out there: wisdom, guidance and open ears.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY, DAD! and to all the fathers out there. We should celebrate our fathers every day of the year, believe that.

Should Schools Provide Free Condoms?

I came across this story in the Philadelphia Inquirer asking whether schools should provide free condoms. I thought that high schools had to do that, but apparently 50-plus high schools in the Philadelphia area aren't up to code -- thanks to their own school system.

Clapping, banging drums and waving signs, the activist group that successfully pushed for condom distribution in some city schools 17 years ago yesterday demanded the prophylactics be given out in all public high schools as a way of preventing teen pregnancy and controlling the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

"Youth need the truth! Condoms save lives!" they shouted in front of the Philadelphia School District building and City Hall.

Members of ACTUP Philadelphia, an AIDS awareness organization, are calling on Mayor Nutter and Arlene Ackerman, the new schools chief executive officer, to seek an increase in city, state and federal funds to expand the condom program to all city high schools.

Last school year, Philadelphia students took home 90,000 free condoms.

Currently, "health resource centers" in 11 high schools distribute condoms to students in 9th through 12th grades, and two more will open in the fall. That means that students in 49 high schools have no access to contraceptives, despite a district policy supporting "involvement in citywide efforts to maximize access to condoms."

Despite what the media will tell you, many teenagers – and adults – are still embarrassed about buying prophylactics.

I remember when the condom section in CVS was in the front of the store. You didn’t want anyone to see that you were buying condoms, even though it’s the right action to take.

One of my favorite scenes from Golden Girls is when Blanche, Rose and Dorothy go into the drug store to buy condoms. While Blanche, the resident bust-it-baby of the crew, sets everyone straight about playing it safe, it’s a testament to how practicing healthy sexual practices are still taboo.

And it shouldn’t be. Are athletes afraid to go out in public and buy condoms? They shouldn’t be, especially since they are the ones that REALLY need to watch their ass when it comes to who they choose to sleep with. They are ways to circumvent that fear. Brands like Trojan and drug stores like CVS and Walgreens offer product delivery. Bulk packs (yes, bulk packs) are available through Amazon.

The fear of producing a baby or the clap should drive someone to be safe. The fear of being “caught” for having sex drives someone to risk their life.

When It Hits Close to Home

Floating around Facebook today, I noticed that one of my former high school's football players just became a father. As I gave my congratulations, I started thinking about our run-ins in those hallways. To be honest, I didn't like him that much. Yeah, he played an important position on the squad and yeah, he made sure that everyone knew it, but I can only remember him by the rumors I used to hear.

The obvious: he used to get his share of high school gut. Girls used to stare him down in the hallway like they weren't going to see him again. I never caught the vapors for dude because his behavior was enough of a turn-off. But as I started to recollect on a lot of my high school memories, I remembered something: There were a lot of players rumored to be daddies.

I don't know if that was a standard high school rumor but for some reason, I would always hear of some girl at some school who had player X's baby. Maybe we expected that to happen to someone, somewhere.

I mean, let's be real ... high school kids are having sex **gasp**. And let's also be real with this fact: certain dudes use football to their advantage to get some ass. I could name you at least ten dudes from my high school squad that I was crushing over. There's something about that jersey that makes girls throw their morals out the window.

So what would make a football player stop using that jersey to his advantage in college? In the pros? It ain't like these dudes just figured this out. It starts early.

Yesterday, I heard you lashed out on a reporter who talked about your family. And while I applaud you for defending your children (they don't deserve to get caught up in this mess), I am a tad bit concerned that you've been taking your role as Mrs. Kobe Bryant a tad bit far. Apparently, this isn't the only time you've done this. I'm surprised that you haven't grown a thicker skin since, you know, you're not the most liked person in the world and probably never will be.

Look at you ... you're the wife of one of the best, if not the best, NBA player in the game. Haters will hate. But honestly, a good percentage of people out here don't like you. They never liked you and probably never will. People labeled you a gold digger because you met Kobe while you were still in high school, yet you were doing music videos on the side, and it's rumored (and somewhat confirmed) that Kobe's parents didn't/don't like you. I could also get into the fact that some people had an issue with you not being Black, but that's a societal problem and a way bigger issue itself.

Obviously, I know you're pissed about The Dirty report about K.O.B.E. and a former Laker cheerleader having an affair. We know you've been through this before and you're still by your husband, which is commendable. But I have to ask you: When Bryant bought that ginormous ring for you after his little incident, did you ever think that may be his ticket to do it again? It ain't like Kobe can't afford to buy you something bigger. That ring was nothing, trust me. Also, it doesn't help that your marriage appears to be some sort of a publicity stunt. The Bryant family shots appear like clockwork during the season.

Everything I just said has been said about you or towards you. People will always have something greasy to say about you. Honestly, you need to (wo)man up and deal with it. I hope you didn't think this shit would be easy? You've been dealing with this crap since 2004. At one point, you need to say "I'm Kobe's wife and the mother of two beautiful girls ... that's worth more than what any A,B,C, or D website can say about me, husband and my children." You're grown, so you can take a hit. But if someone goes at your kids, get hood. I would.

Your happiness comes first. If you're honestly happy in this situation, say "F*** the world" -- to yourself, of course -- and keep it moving. But the fact that you keep lashing out on people says that, internally, shit ain't cool. I hope you find happiness, with or without Kobe.

When An Athlete Mimics a 14 Year Old on Myspace ...

Like every other person, I have a MySpace account. I got on the MySpace train a little bit late, in most part because I saw MySpace turn into a kiddie domain for pedophiles.

So it hurts me to see my favorite NBA player "model" on MySpace.

During the 2000 All-Star Game Weekend in Oakland, CA, Kobe Bryant performed his [/sarcasm]hit[/sarcasm] single "K.O.B.E", featuring Tyra Banks, at the NBA Team-Up celebration.

It's even more sad to say that Tyra did worse than Kobe. SMH.

This great performance was out-shined by another performance that weekend. Thank God.

There is nothing funny about pedophilia at all. I'm just mad that the Philadelphia-area has had a string of these type of incidents in the past couple of months.

A former Montgomery County high school swim coach was arrested yesterday for soliciting sex for money from a 15-year-old female student.

Michael Dolan, 29, of Ambler, who worked at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, has been charged with criminal solicitation to commit involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and related offenses, said Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman.

"He will not be coaching again at Plymouth Whitemarsh or any other school in the area," said Ferman.

She said Whitemarsh Township police began an investigation after a 9th-grade girl whom Dolan knew from school told her parents she had received a spate of unsolicited, sexually explicit text messages.

The first message was sent on April 24 at 2:30 a.m. and messages continued for several days, said Ferman, adding that the girl did not know who was sending them. The messages included references to providing oral sex for money and arranging to meet in a park for sex, Ferman said.

Two weeks ago, I wrote a blog somewhat apologizing to Kobe Bryant for finding him guilty in the court of public opinion for his dropped rape case in 2003. Like a lot of people, I had a personal grudge against Kobe that impacted how I viewed his decisions. I came to realize that Kobe isn’t that bad of a guy.

But according to The Dirty, Kobe still has some work to do.

My real dilemma with this story came with The Dirty itself. As you all should know, The Dirty landed in infamy for their exposure of Matt Leinart and the underage- girls-with-liquor story earlier this year. The blog post led to Arizona sports columnists blasting Leinart for his “lack of maturity” and “loss of determination”.

While I, like others, found some humor in those photos, I also found some humility in them. Leinart is a 25-year-old guy. What 20-something doesn’t like to party with drunk girls? The photos made him look human. But when Braylon Edwards, during the now-infamous Costas Now Buzz vs. Leitch segment, said that athletes now have to watch what they do in fear of being blasted on the internet, one question quickly popped in my mind: Shouldn’t athletes do that regardless?

Obviously, no athlete wants to go to a club thinking “I can’t get wasted; Deadspin might out me tomorrow” but human beings themselves have the right, the will and the need to be careful. Regardless whether TMZ or The Dirty is creeping in the backdoor, an athlete should be making decisions with the one tool God gave us all: common sense.

Common sense tells you not to drink and drive. Common sense tells you to not “make love in the club” or do the “two-finger split at an industry party”, and common sense should really tell you not to risk your sexual health over some two-bit trollop.

Every time an athlete makes a mistake, the first thing they say is, “I’m human and human makes mistakes.” Athletes want to be treated as human beings but they tend to treat themselves as “super-human”. Internally, they feel they can do anything, say anything without consequences (and that’s a whole ‘nother story in itself).

It becomes a problem when someone consciously makes the same mistake over and over or they never own up to their original mistake. It takes a real person to admit they messed up.

Human beings face the consequences for their actions everyday. So if athletes want to be treated like human beings, they need to start treating themselves as human beings. Make conscious decisions and if you don’t and get caught, brush the photos off, admit to yourself that you f*cked up and keep it moving.

CHICAGO – Lance Briggs threw out the ceremonial first pitch and sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch of the Cubs-Pirates game Friday. But the Bears linebacker wasn’t the only one who enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Wrigley Field.

Briggs brought 11 children from Boys Hope Girls Hope of Illinois with him to the ballpark, taking them on the field before the game and then later up to a private suite to watch the action.

Founded in 1977, Boys Hope Girls Hope is a privately funded, non-profit, multi-denominational organization that provides at-risk children with a stable home, positive parenting, high quality education and the support they need to reach their full potential. Many of the kids come from home environments marked by drug abuse, poverty or neglect.

Lance Briggs fires the ceremonial first pitch before Friday's Cubs-Pirates game at Wrigley Field.

“A lot of these kids have never been out to see a baseball game like this in person,” Briggs said. “To come out here on the field is real special for not only them but for me too.”

Briggs was touched while watching a short video about the kids from Boys Hope Girls Hope en route to the game. The organization is unique in that it places children in non-institutional, family-like homes staffed with live-in residential counselors, supports children financially and emotionally through college and beyond and is funded exclusively through private donations.

Williams, 21, was charged Wednesday with conversion in connection to a shoplifting incident last week at a Lafayette grocery store.

He is scheduled for an initial hearing June 9 in Tippecanoe Superior Court for the misdemeanor. He is accused of stealing condoms May 7.[Source]

You know what, I can't even be mad at this. It's a tad bit funny because this incident gets him suspended indefinitely from the Boilermakers team and not driving while drunk...

Williams pleaded guilty in December to misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated, with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more, from a March 2007 arrest. He was sentenced to 364 days of unsupervised probation.

Next time, I hope he and his homeboys invest in a bulk pack.

In court Wednesday, Briggs' ex-girlfriend Brittini Tribbett, 21, again pleaded for Briggs to provide adequate emotional and financial support for their baby girl, while another pregnant woman stood by, listening to talk of how she's set to deliver a Briggs baby.

Briggs, 27, wasn't in court. He is living in Arizona with yet another woman who recently gave birth to another daughter of Briggs, those involved in the case alleged. [Source]

What the hell is wrong with people, really? First of all, to possibly have three chicks pregnant is not only disrespectful towards these women but to every woman walking this planet. I don't get it, what possesses someone to do this? Dude's hard-headed. Any man who drops his seed in any girl without thinking needs to be dealt with.

There is so much bullshit coming from both sides, it's ridiculous ... but I have more a beef with the baby mothers ...

Where's the self-respect? Where's the self-worth? Where's the idea of protecting yourself? So what if you don't produce a baby... you could possibly produce the clap. This ain't the 50s people. Pregnancy is not the only casualty of the raw. There are too many sexually transmitted infections out here for anyone to be dropping their seed in people like this.

Briggs is disrespecting each chick by getting the other one pregnant. Fuck a check. A check won't make them feel better for what he's done. Briggs played all of these chicks for fools. They would be bullshitting if they said that they didn't know about each other. Yeah, they want him to take responsibility for his children, but why didn't they responsibility for themselves?

This is why I do this blog. I do it because people need to be aware of the possible consequences of making poor decisions. Is the Magic Johnson situation that far gone that people seem to forget about the risks. Damn, respect yourself. If you don't, you might end up with an infection that antibiotics can't solve.

Daniel Smith was a college football player at Texas Southern University/University of Idaho/Los Angeles Pierce College. Solange Knowles is the younger sister of R&B diva Beyonce. Smith also pursued his NFL dreams as well. He was picked up as a rookie free-agent with the Carolina Panthers in 2006, out of the University of Idaho (Coincidently, Solange is now rumored to be dating current Carolina Panther Julius Peppers). Smith was later cut during training camp.

The couple divorced in 2006, with Solange saying to Essence Magazine:

Well, I am no longer married, but I think it’s very important not to dish details. We are friends and we coparent our son. When he gets older I don’t want him to read anything about me saying anything about his father or vice versa. When there’s a child involved I think the less information given is best. [Source]

What can be said about this situation? Well, what happened to Solange and Daniel isn't new. Many girls on the cusp of adulthood who become pregnant are forced to marry the fathers of their children. It so happens that she is the sister of the famous star. These two knew each other for five years; they were childhood sweethearts. There was something deeper within their situation that only they would know. We can only hope that others learn from their situation. Teenage love can be a dangerous thing.

All You Have Are Hoop Dreams

Yesterday, I took time out to watch Hoop Dreams, the 1994 documentary about inner-city Chicago high school basketball players and their road to the big dream -- playing in the NBA. The movie will touch your heart yet piss you off, especially regarding the treatment of these young boys by people who obviously don't give a damn about these boys' well-beings.

Watching it for the second time, I realized that both boys, Arthur Agee, a public-high school player who failed in the private system, and William "Willy" Gates, the heavily-recruited guard, were fathers -- or going to be -- before they went to college.

Obviously there are socio-economical reasons for why this happens. But when you have the responsibility of a child and all you've ever been taught is that basketball is your only way out, you put more pressure on yourself and you fail. Both Agee and Gates didn't end up where they wanted to be.

All you have are the hoop dreams; basketball becomes your life, your only way out. A player like Kobe had options, alot of these dudes don't. Think about the psychological effect it has on a teenager. All of these boys' worths are measured by basketball. When Agee couldn't make it at St. Joseph's High School, the prep school of Isiah Thomas, and failed at playing basketball off of their standards, he was left on the wayside. Why? Because they knew they could go back in the 'hood and recruit some boy off the playground to take his place. Plus, these "recruiters" sale these kids a 'dream', a 'dream' to play in the NBA.

Even Gates, in the movie, said that playing basketball became more of a job. Well, when a baby comes into the players, you need to use that job to take care of your family. These kids were promised so many things, but ended up with nothing but a "hoop dream"

Sex Education Needs A New Angle ...

I don’t know about you, but I started my sex education in 5th grade. Yes, 5th grade. It was the whole “Once a month, you bleed out of your girls parts” and “This is what happens to boys when they get ‘excited’” type stuff. We watched a woman give birth, vagina viewpoint and all, and gagged our hearts out. It single-handedly made me not want to get pregnant, f*** an epidural.

The whole point of Sex Education in junior high and high school was to scare the s*** out of you … and for a minute, it worked. But everything gets thrown out of the window when emotions get involved. Syphilis what?

I bring this up after a conversation I had with a best friend of mine. We both admitted to putting ourselves in the some really messed up situations as teenagers because of a boy. All of the fear that was instilled in us by our parents and the public school system went on hiatus. You didn’t realize the danger you just put yourself in until AFTER it’s over.

Sex education teaches you how to deal with these issues as teenagers as if that’s the worse time to get yourself caught up. They fail to realize something: Your consequences are greater when you mess up later. We’re not adding liquor, money, arrogance into the picture until later. That is why athletes seem to get themselves into trouble. They never had to factor in getting stuff thrown at them by people who seem to care, especially when their emotions are twisted.

That’s why, when you see a young dude get caught up in a situation, you feel some sort of pity for him. He wasn’t thinking with his head, he was thinking with his penis. And at 20, they are virtually the same thing. The opportunity to get into some drama is greater.

I’m not saying that people should get a pass for acting a damn fool, but when you’re taught fear and not responsibility, worse things can – and will – happen.

See if this sounds familiar: You and your girlfriend/boyfriend are parting ways to attend separate colleges in the fall. You've ignored the idea of breaking up with this person, both of you saying. "We can make this work. I'll call. I'll visit on the weekends." You part ways thinking that everything is going to be okay.

Things are cool for the three weeks until you notice some fine-ass dude/chick giving you eye in the cafeteria. He or she is finer, smarter, cuter, flier ... whatever, he or she has your shorty beat by miles. You go to party, you see him or her. You walk to class 5 minutes early to "accidentally" bump into that person. You want that person. Temptation is a bitch. You have to break up with your boo, or you'll do something stupid.

You will never tell him or her the true reason why it's over. All you'll say: "This long-distance thing isn't working." The real reason: I didn't know that better people existed until I went to college.

This is real and all to common. It also happens to athletes. Look at Dwyane Wade ...

While reading about Dwyane Wade and his little situation being put on blast, I became bothered by it. Not because Dwyane was messing with hookers or doing other scandalous shit (what's new?), but because he never had to. Dwyane married his high school sweetheart, Siohvaughn, and everything seem peachy. There were people who said that he could do better, which he ignored. Siohvaughn was with him before the fame and before the money.

But where is he? Miami. After winning the NBA championship in 2006, women and trappers (they are two different breeds) ran towards him. He was caught, he was done ... it was over. The idea of the "down-ass chick" was dead.

For those unfamiliar, the "down-ass chick" is the one person that stayed with you when you were struggling and would stay if you fell flat again. She was there before the fame, the money and the success. She genuinely loves you and cares about you. That's why, if you did cheat on the account of being a man and, hypothetically, had a child on the way, you stayed with her, regardless of how good that other chick looks in front of your people.

That concept in sports is dead. The Juanitas are gone. The Tawannas, the Allen Iverson types, are gone. The Cookies, the wives of a Magic Johnson, especially, are gone. It's either two things: One, women don't put up with being second-fiddle or two, these athletes realize that they are playing themselves if the even try to commit. I think it's a combination of both.

High School Coach Charged with Touching Teenage Girl

The head freshman football coach at Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden has been indicted on charges he fondled a 15-year-old Camden girl on Dec. 14 after offering her a ride home from an evening basketball game.

Anthony Granger, 45, of Cherry Hill, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated criminal sexual contact.

Jason Laughlin, spokesman for the Camden County prosecutor, said Granger allegedly offered the victim and two other teenage girls a lift and gave the girl his cell phone so that she could inform her mother.

An hour later, after Granger dropped off the other girls, he began to assault the girl, Laughlin said. The mother then called on Granger's phone to locate her daughter, the spokesman said. [Source]

I'm going to make this clear from the get-go: I don't like Tom Brady. Last year, I called for his head on another blog. He's overrated ... he needs to be humbled. Quite frankly, I wish he'd disappear. But since he isn't, his baby-mama issue needs to be addressed. Especially since no one possesses the balls or ovaries to do it.

So far, the athletes mentioned on this blog in its short history, Darren McFadden, Kobe Bryant, Stephon Marbury, have been scolded for their off-the-field philandering. I wasn't the first and will not be the last. But the one person that's getting away with having a baby out of wedlock is Tom Brady.

He didn't do anything different from what Shawn Kemp does on a bi-annual basis. It's not a race issue because Matt Leinart's prostate was set on fire by the media when word came out about his illegitimate child.

Here's the back story:

Brady, who just turned 30, dated Moynahan for nearly three years. Often during the couple's courtship, Moynahan made it clear she'd like to have children. Brady, a three-time Super Bowl champ who grew up in northern California, was not so explicit about his interest in having a family.

In February, a few days after the New York Post first reported the pregnancy, Brady's agent, Don Yee, issued a statement saying his client was "excited" about becoming a dad. Since then, the star QB has been mostly mum on the subject, and Yee didn't return a phone call yesterday.

Not long after the couple's breakup, which was announced in mid-December, Brady began dating Gisele Bundchen, the world's richest supermodel and the former girlfriend of actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Since the end of last football season, Brady and his Brazilian beauty have been photographed at fashion events in London, Milan, and Versailles. It’s Time to Admit We Were All Wrong

I thought Kobe Bryant was done. He ~~allegedly raped a hotel employee~~ cheated on his wife, lost many of his endorsements, and became public enemy number one for snitching on Shaq. Five years later, Bryant restored his image and now is the model husband and father. How were we all wrong?

Back in 2003, when the logistics of the rape case surfaced – you know, White girl, Black athlete – and the public found him guilty on all counts, many wondered whether Kobe would either a) get out of this jam O.J. style or b) become a prison-yard point guard. We didn’t want to believe that Kobe, a sex symbol and all-star athlete, would have to go to extreme means to get some. It’s Kobe, for goodness sakes.

But in reality, people were waiting for Kobe to go down for something. For one, he doesn’t fit the typical “Hoop Dreams” model: He wasn’t born into poverty, where playground ball grabbed the attention of a Sonny Vaccaro-type, who recruited you to play at (insert Catholic prep school name), where basketball became your savior and you became a big star and a beacon of hope to all the kiddies in the hood who urge to mimic your life.

Kobe grew up in Lower Merion, a high-end area near Philadelphia. Philadelphia refuses to claim him. He didn’t have it rough like many of the ballers in the league today. He seemed to receive all of the breaks, all of the glory and all of the attention. He rode his last name. We don’t have the time or the patience to rehash the drama about his wife, Vanessa.

That’s why, early in his career, you saw Kobe trying to grab into this “hood” side, to show people that he was “down”. It failed. He’s the league’s bastard child. That’s why we wanted him convicted of any crime; hopefully, it would humble him.

But yet, we’re the ones that are humbled. So with that, I apologize for finding him guilty of rape in the court of public opinion. I still don’t like the guy, though.

Demetrius Bell, a seventh-round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills, found out post-high school graduation that NBA legend Karl Malone was his father. Malone denies Bell as his child and Bell doesn't care to know his father. Fair right? Hell f***ing no, especially since Malone, who was 19 at the time, got Bell's mother pregnant when she was 13.

Bell is the son of Malone, but the Mailman had no role in Bell’s success except passing along athletic genes.

The two have had very little contact during Bell’s life. His mother, Gloria Bell, reportedly was only 13 years old and Malone a college sophomore at Louisiana Tech when Demetrius was born. Malone might have served jail time had her family asked the district attorney to file criminal charges.

Bell didn’t even know Malone was his father until after graduating from high school. When they finally met, Malone told the 18-year-old Bell it was too late to be his father, and that Bell would have to “earn his money on his own.”

In a 1998 story in the Salt Lake (Utah) Tribune, Gloria Bell said, “Demetrius is ashamed that his dad doesn’t claim him. But I’ve told him it is not his fault.” [Source]

I'm appalled. Not because Malone fathered an illegitimate child -- I mean, damn ... this is Athletes AND Procreation -- but because he was 19. A damn adult. She was barely a teenager. I know a lot of thirteen-year-olds who look grown as hell but there is absolutely no justifiable reason to go all R. Kelly on some little girl. Do we not have any decency? This s*** ain't normal. It's sick.

That's why, even though I abhor LeBron James, I can never be on Team Deshawn Stevenson. Dude provided brandy and penis to a fourteen-year-old girl back in 2001.

The 20-year-old Stevenson surrendered to police Tuesday night and was charged with statutory rape. He was released on $5,000 bail. According to court records, Stevenson admitted to the girl's mother in a tape-recorded telephone call that he had sex with her daughter.
Stevenson, a backup guard who went directly to the NBA from high school last year, is charged along with former high school teammate DeShawn Anderson, 19. A hearing was set for July 6.
The girl told police the two and another former teammate took her and a 15-year-old girl to a motel June 6 after buying a bottle of brandy.
According to the report, both girls said they got drunk on alcohol served by Stevenson. The 14-year-old said she had consensual sex with Stevenson and later passed out, while the 15-year-old said she had consensual sex with Anderson, the report said. Also in the room at the time was Richard Millsap, a former high school teammate of Stevenson and Anderson, whom the 15-year-old said did not participate in the sex.
Everyone left the motel together and the girls were dropped off at the 15-year-old's house. The 14-year-old's mother, who was worried because her daughter was late, found her at her friend's house and picked her up. The mother called police after her daughter told her what had happened.
The mother later confronted Stevenson in a telephone call that was recorded, the police report said, and Stevenson admitted he had sex with the woman's daughter and said Anderson had sex with the other girl. Stevenson also admitted providing the alcohol.

Note One: Yes, I know this is a sports blog and yes, there is nothing masculine about The View but in an attempt to build this blog back up, I figured I'd start with something. No person has pissed me off lately ... actually one has (post on him soon)

On my off days, I try to catch The View, ABC’s show dedicated to today’s ~~stay-at-home Mom waiting for the news and All My Children to come on~~ women. While the show now seems like an estrogen-overloaded version of the Lou Dobbs report (politics, politics and politics), it does solicit some of the most unintentional comedy in the form of Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Elisabeth is the wife of Tim Hasselbeck, the NFL vagabond QB from Boston College, where the couple met. Her entry into society: Survivor. That exquisite resume allowed her to replace Lisa Ling (can you say downgrade?)

This chick slays me with her Republican ass. I mean, she tries so hard to make a solid opinion on politics but somewhere it gets lost in the weird-ass mannerisms and three-year-old-about-to-have-a-temper-tantrum face. You should see when Whoopi, Sherri and Joy get on her. She looks like she about to piss on herself.

I give her credit for not backing down, especially during this President cycle of Obama-Wright-Obama vs. Billary nonsense. She feels how she feels and no one can change that, which I respect. It’s just her execution lacks a little uumph. There are millions of people who believe what she does – scary, isn’t it? – but they can get their points across so well, that you eventually let them go. You can’t let the shit she says slide, especially when she makes it really easy to attack her.

Funny thing is: She's claims she not a Republican. According to her Wiki:

Hasselbeck has said that she calls herself neither a conservative nor a liberal. Her parents had an independent political stance, never telling their children for whom they voted. Bulls***. She voted for Bush and supports McCain, spoke at the Republican National Convention in 2004, and guest hosted on Fox News. Be real here. While I was happy that she stood up to Rosie O' Donnell , the Elisabeth of the Left when she was on the View, about her views on the War, I find it hard to believe that she defines herself as an "neither liberal or conservative," especially since she plays the latter on The View with open arms.

Honestly and truthfully, I hope she realizes that she’s getting played by ABC. But until then, I’ll enjoy the soda-spitting hilarity she ensues.

A woman who claims Michael Jordan fathered her child wants the former NBA star to submit to a third paternity test.

Lisa Miceli also is asking a judge to lift a temporary restraining order imposed after Jordan filed a harassment suit against her.

Miceli, 35, of Meadville, claims Jordan fathered her 4-year-old son, but Jordan's lawsuit says a pair of 2005 paternity tests rule him out as the boy's father.

Jordan's attorney Frederick J. Sperling participated in a hearing by phone Friday, denying Miceli's claims that the restraining order prevents her from negotiating a child-support agreement settlement with Jordan. [Source]

That last sentence bothers the shit out of me. I didn't know that you could prevent someone from getting a paternity test, but I understand it. If Jordan was proven to not be the father of Miceli's child twice, there's no reason to waste either person's, or the court's, time and retest both parties. What is she hoping? LF: Will Tyreke Evans Be The Product of Overhype?

Overhype can be a very dangerous thing. It’s when a person, place or thing garners so my hype before it even starts, that someone from the outside would automatically think it’s a hit. So when it fails, it fails. Those who screamed to the high heavens about it, feel duped while others feel smart for not getting caught up in the hype.

Overhype is notorious in hip-hop – see Papoose, Saigon and, recently, Jay Electronica – and thanks to Rivals.com and ESPN, college sports. There are plenty of players that live up to their anticipation, while others do not. One player in the Philadelphia area that fits the bill is Tyreke Evans.

You’re probably like “who the hell is that?” So was I, three weeks ago, until a Villanova fan expressed his love and adulation for the current Jay Wright recruit. Evans is, by far, one of the more hyped high school ball players in the country. Personally, I haven’t seen this much hype for a Philly ball player since Eddie Griffin (the Roman Catholic alum that passed away last summer). If you watch the YouTube videos on Evans, he reminds of the typical Philly ball player, especially with that playground jump shot.

If Griffin's career is any indication of what might happend to Evans, it doesn’t look good. There can only be a few LeBron James(es) or Chris Webber(s). More than likely, there will be another Dajuan Wagner or Sebastian Telfair.

So whose fault is it when these players fail? Everyone wants to feel as if they “discovered” the talent before they are ever billed to be “talented.” But why can’t we wait to see what happens? People are hired everyday to figure out whose the next this and that. Let these players be players … and breathe.

What can be predicted is the amount of attention that a chosen few will attract after the tournament. The campus whore? The professional groupie? Whatever species it may be, these athletes should watch their backs …

Stephen Curry – Yes, homeboy looks like he’s 12. But what Curry’s been able to do in this year's tourney is remarkable. Disregard what happened against Kansas, once Curry makes his decision, some lady, willing to rob the cradle, is sure to follow. And she won’t have to check ID.

"Paternity Ward," from the May 8, 1998 issue of SI, goes in on the huge number of professional athletes who have children out of wedlock. While fatherless children is a national problem, the number seems to grow within NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL circles.

This is the basis of the trap. There are women out here to target men with money for a paycheck. But what must not be forgotten is that these men are playing 'tag' the cervix [1] of women they don't know, especially unprotected. I understand that tons of women are opening their legs to you and that if its offered to you, why turn it down? But there are too many venereal diseases and fatherless babies out here for you to think you can mess with whatever broad you want to and get away with it. 10:14 – They just mentioned it: The Nuggets don’t play a shit piece of defense. How the hell do you put up 120 points and lose?

9:03 – When is A.I. going to hit a basket?

8:09 – Dalembert straight crushed A.I. You know Allen weights closer to a Thin Mint. Remember when the Sixers used to lie about Allen’s height? Six-feet tall my ass.

LF: A.I. Returns to Philly and Other S***

The Answer who wore the The Question sneakers is back in South Philly tonight as the Nuggets play the Sixers. It will be A.I.'s first visit to the city since being traded 15 months ago.

I will be live-blogging the game tonight (check back after every quarter for updates), along with dropping some YouTube links and dumb ass diatribe (including more on A.I's lovely arrest photo, to the right, and the incident that caused it all) . I notice some of the most random shit, so be prepared for it.

Terrelle Pryor chooses Ohio State: Oregon, Penn State and Michigan fans are crying in their cereal as I type. The top recruit in the nation chose to compete with the Buckeyes this upcoming season, ending an almost two-month-long search and speculation. I must give props to Pryor and his family for really taking a look at these schools and making a conscious decision. If Michigan and PSU need anymore ammunition in their rivalries with Ohio State, this is it.

I'm going to resurrect a blog post I did on Reggie Bush earlier this year, because apparently one of his alleged bustdowns confronted him and his main bustdown, Kim Kardashian, two nights ago. I'm going to tie into "The Trap." Look forward to that after the game or tomorrow morning.

Stephon Marbury Has A Love-Child in Vegas?

This is a rumor that I’ve been hearing about for a minute. Stephon “I like to bone Knicks interns in the backseat” Marbury allegedly has a baby boy out in Vegas. Let us speculate…

Vegas may seem a tad bit random in terms of cities, but really it isn’t. Remember, the 2007 NBA All-Star Game/rapper convention/trapper convention/pseudo-Greek fest was in Vegas. If you factor that in plus nine months later, the baby would have to be about four months old, which makes sense with the rumor.

Marbury is the father of three children with his college sweetheart, who he married. As much of a rep he may possess, he does A LOT of things for the community. While I wouldn’t be surprised if this baby actually surfaces, the investigation is still pending on this one…

Trappers rejoice! You now have a place where you can meet up with other trappers, trade stories, discuss alleged STDs and penis sizes. You’re not alone anymore….

Talk-Sports.net may seem, at the surface, generic at best. But when you look past the domain name, you’ll find an array of women having open and live discussions about the athletes they may have sucked and/or f**ked. While some of these women are living in fantasy, claiming to be girlfriends, baby mothers and mistresses, most of these women are just salty that they were straight ignored in the club like every other chick.

Everybody is a victim on this website. Of course, I could find STORIES and STORIES on alleged hoes like Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant and Stephon Marbury, but there are even stories on Dwight Howard (which had many of its comments deleted), Chris Paul, Richard Hamilton and all of people, Joe Johnson of the Hawks.

Reading about Joe bothered me, honestly. I’ve been a stan for Joe since he was drafted by the Celtics in 2001 and have been following his career ever since. Hell, I cried when he landed on his face in the playoffs back in 2005 when he was with Phoenix. He does countless community service projects, including aiding his local Boys and Girls club back in Little Rock and providing letter jackets to high school athletes who otherwise couldn’t afford them. He’s a good guy. So to think that he could ho-strolling in and out of Atlanta and allegedly have Herpes 2 bothered the shit out of me.

Do I believe it? Well … Joe is a very attractive dude so I wouldn’t be surprised if he may be using that to his advantage. Frankly, what young male wouldn’t sleep with countless women who are effortlessly throwing themselves at them. Whether Joe carries an STD is none of my business but to the women he’s sleeping with.

But what does bother me is that these women get a kick out of talking shit about men that they have never slept with or slept with once and got carried later. Let him go, damn. There’s a reason why they call you groupies in the first place. These chicks are the ones that are most likely to be trapping because they have nothing to lose and whole lotta shit to gain. Aight, so you f**ked him … big deal. You ain’t the first, the last or the only. If you don’t trap him, some other chick will. And will you talk shit about her too?

How Terrelle Pryor Can Avoid “The Trap”

If you live in Oregon, Ohio, Pennsylvania or Michigan — or any place not under a rock — and you follow college football, you are most definitely aware of the most wanted recruit in the nation: Terrelle Pryor. (If, for some strange reason, you are unfamiliar with his story, check out the Detroit-Free Press, who have written extensively on the recruitment story of the decade)

Whatever school Pryor chooses, he can guarantee that all of the ladies will be running for the line to speak to, seduce and/or sex the quarterback.

Pryor has to get some high school cut thrown at him now, right? But in college it gets worse. Here are five ways for Terrelle to avoid getting caught up in “The Trap”...

1) Attempt to find a steady broad once he arrives

Pryor will have a multitude of chicks to choose from, but what he should do is narrow that list down. He’ll find some shorty that he would want to kick it with.

2) Refuse the sex the girl who wants it raw

Why? Because if she’s letting you hit raw, she’s probably letting the whole depth chart hit it as well.

3) Invest in a safe sex kit early

Before you move into the dorm, take a trip to your closest CVS or Walgreens and pick you up some prophylactics.

4) Do not follow this code: It ain’t no fun, if the homies can’t have none

Ask the football team at Cheyney University how that went.

5) Treat your body in the bedroom as you treat it in the weight room

You wouldn’t start a new workout regimen if you knew it wasn’t safe. You wouldn’t go on the field against a blitz without your O-line. You would get enough rest to be ready for practice and game time. Terrelle should treat his body as a temple when it comes to the bedroom. Don’t let every girl hit, wear protection to help prevent pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. Be safe.

It would be a shame to hear that Terrelle Pryor got himself caught up in "The Trap". I have faith in the kid that he won’t.

Sorta LF: Tommy Bowden, Do You Not Have a Heart?*

Ray Ray McElrathbey was a running back for the Clemson Tigers. He came to national notoriety for taking care of his younger brother, whose parents were both battling addictions. It was the feel-good story of 2006, a college kid handling not only academics and athletics, but raising a child under tough circumstances. The NCAA even granted Ray Ray an exemption to be able to collect clothing and other necessities that he could not otherwise afford.

This story gave Clemson the biggest publicity it’s seen outside of the annual Bowden Wars. But what does Tommy Bowden do in return… he lets Ray Ray go.

Clemson decided not to renew Ray Ray’s scholarship, which is done on a year-to-year basis. Why? Welp, that’s where the disrepency comes in.

Clemson claims that McElrathbey left because he was about to go to graduate school or transfer. Ray Ray’s people, James Davis, a senior tailback for the Tigers, claim that he didn’t have a choice but to.

"He said something about how they weren't going to renew his scholarship," said Davis, who has been friends with McElrathbey since their high school days in Atlanta. "It really surprised me. But there's a lot of stuff you can't say. It's something I guess everybody has to learn to live with." [Source]

Players lose scholarships all the time, that’s reality and I’m not mad at that. What bothers me is that Clemson milked this story dry, used it to recruit. The least they could do is give the kid a graduate assistant job or something, especially if he was on pace to graduate in August. He did a whole lot for you, so why don’t you do something for him…

But the biggest point is that Ray Ray is not alone: There are a lot of college athletes who have parental responsibilities. NCAA rules prohibited athletes from receiving money; they can’t even hold a job. The rule was put there for a reason: NCAA athletes, specifically basketball and football players, are notorious for receiving money under the table from boosters, agents, professionals, etc. But what do you expect a man to do, especially if he wants to provide for his child, if he can’t hold a job on the weekends or fix cars during the season for extra cash. It’s one thing when you receive money or discounts at Dillard’s for the hell of it, it’s another thing when you have a child to take of and you can’t provide for them because by rule, you can’t work for pay.

Clearly, The “Pull-Out” Method Didn’t Work: Travis Henry

First, let me say that I do not advocate the use of the pull-out method. Not only is it dangerous, but also it can potentially lead to permanent physical damage. Think about it…

Travis Henry is my generation’s Shawn Kemp. As of today, Henry holds the NFL record of nine children by nine different mothers. Birth control, anyone?

Here are the logistics of the case:

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported … that court documents in a Georgia child support case show Henry, 28, has fathered nine children by nine women in four southern states and has been ordered to pay child support for seven of them.

He also had to borrow money from his former team, the Tennessee Titans, to fulfill one of those judgments, according to court records.

The revelations came in a case in which a judge in DeKalb County, Ga., … ordered Henry to provide $3,000 a month and fund a $250,000 trust by the spring for a boy he fathered out of wedlock three years ago with Jameshia Beacham, now 29. [Source]

Today, I got in a debate about whether the nine mothers of his children should be held accountable for their actions. My answer: Absolutely.

While they may not have known about Henry’s other kids, they did open their legs. They had the right to say no and they definitely had the right and the will and the need to use protection. It’s too risky out here to be boning people without it. They are all grown women — sexually-active women — who can be on birth control, demand that Henry used a condom, keep their legs closed…there were options.

Babies are blessings, do not get me wrong here. But if you let one dude hit raw, you’re probably letting other dudes hit raw as well. Henry should’ve worn a condom and they should’ve demand it.

LF: The Eagles Cut Takeo Spikes

This has, quite possibly, been the best two weeks in my short lifetime, as a Philadelphia Eagles fan, since Super Bowl XXXIX. We picked up Asante Samuel and Chris Clemons, went after Randy Moss, and cut Jevon Kearse. But the best news of all: Takeo Spikes is no longer a Philadelphia Eagle. Seriously, it’s almost orgasmic.

Spikes, 31, a 10-year veteran, was acquired a little less than a year ago in a trade with Buffalo.

The Eagles will save on their salary cap the $5 million Spikes was due to receive this season.

The move, for the moment, probably means Omar Gaither will move back to outside linebacker. Stewart Bradley, entering his second season, will replace Gaither in the middle. The other starter is Chris Gocong. [Source]

The Eagles save money on the cap, to possibly go after a wide receiver, and save face. Spikes suffered from the same disease as Dhani Jones: the tendency to celebrate over some bullshit, like a damn half-tackle. The dude was pathetic. The one-line anecdotes he used were comedic. He took himself too seriously. Plus, he sucked gonads on the field for us. I don’t get it. The Eagles take a guy who used to play on two sucky teams for no apparent reason. He was a waste of space, time, energy, internet bandwidth, air, water, money, fur coats, Lego blocks, tax money, state funds, Astroturf… . For his under-achievement, he damn sure walked around this city like he was shit. There are dudes in Southwest Philly that are more intimidating than he could ever be on the field. Spikes was such a bust, Michael Vick wouldn’t even waste the time to electrocute him if he was a dog.

I’m happy he’s gone. Good riddance.

LF: I’ll Be Damned … Suzy Kolber Was Pregnant?!

I’d must admit: I’m not the chronic ESPN watcher I used to be. It’s not because I can’t stand the boys in Bristol anymore. It’s because I don’t have the time. The nights of falling asleep to Sportscenter were over in high school. It also helps when your college doesn’t have a smidge of a chance of being on the network to begin with (Note: I should’ve went to Rutgers…dammit.)

When I started following sports, one of the first television personalities I gravitated towards was Suzy Kolber. She was a chick talking about sports like she knew it all. She was my beacon of hope. So when I heard that Suzy had a baby, my first thought: When was she pregnant??

Kolber, who turns 44 in May, delivered a baby girl yesterday. Kolber's father, Gene, said baby Kellyn weighed 61/2 pounds and measured 19 inches long.

Suzy Kolber, who chose to become a single mother, expects to cover the NFL Draft in late April. "She's in the maternity ward reading stuff right now," her father said. [Source]

Yes, they did film her from the chest up but I didn’t think anything of it. I barely watched Monday Night Football, so I missed her there. She looked like she gained weight, but who doesn’t. Hell, I didn’t even know she was 44. This shit flew under the radar, didn’t it?

LF: Does ESPN Want to Procreate with Brett Favre?

Because of time and constructive criticism (props to that individual), I figured that I should give a break between bashing bad baby-daddies heads in and talk about sports in general.

Brett Favre retired. Yippee. The way ESPN and other media outlets are treating this announcement is indeed over the top. The four-letter network is infamous for sucking the life (pun really and truly intended) out of the athletes, executives and teams they admire. You noticed last year’s clusterf*ck of Patriots coverage, right?

Here are some of the best — and worst — marriage proposals to Brett Favre via “The Worldwide Leader”:

Chad Johnson: Does He Feed His … Own … Children?

If you’re ever up late on a Sunday night slash Monday Morning, you’ve probably seen the infomercial for Feed The Children starring Ocho Cinco himself, Chad Johnson.

Recently, I debated with someone about whether Johnson was a character guy —character enough to be a Philadelphia Eagle. Chad, the previous week, really didn’t help my cause when he allegedly push reporters out of the way during this year’s Pro Bowl. Well, I thought I had to best talking point yet by claiming that Chad Johnson being a spokesperson for Feed The Children, especially when he didn’t have to, makes him an aight guy. But then I started Googling.

Apparently, he isn’t that bad. Chad has four children: Jicyra, Chad Jr., Chade and Chaiel. According to the Bengals organization, he’s on point with his. I Googled and Lexis-Nexis’d the mess out of this one and couldn’t find any public — emphasis on public — records regarding Chad and his children.

Floating around online, however, are conflicting stories. Certain blogs are stating that there are indeed four kids by two mothers, others are saying 3 illegitimate children. While they empathize the idea that Chad make babies, none of them suggest that he’s not a good father.

At this point, I consider this still an open investigation. Deep down, I know that Chad takes care of his responsibilities and is a good dad. We’ll see what pops up in the future.

Darren McFadden: A Victim of “The Trap”?

In this blog, I will commonly refer to the theory called “The Trap”. “The Trap” refers to athletes who are involved with women who purposely get pregnant for either monetary support or social gain, hence being caught in “The Trap”. While “The Trap” could be referred, metaphorically, to the female reproductive organ, the idea that some women will “trick” or “trap” men into their lives by pregnancy is a foul thing.

Darren McFadden, quite possibility a top-five pick in this April’s draft, has two … yes, two … paternity suits plus another baby on the way. That would make three babies before he’s 25. (Note: Some sources allege that it’s only one paternity suit and two claimed children. Darren McFadden agent, according to the Miami Herald, has stated that McFadden could have three illegitimate children out there.)

At first, when I heard about the initial paternity suit, filed back in January of the this year, I figured that McFadden could be a possible victim of "The Trap." He was that dude in Arkansas, a groupie super-magnet. I wouldn’t be surprised if some chick majoring in “Trap”ology got his ass. But then I started thinking and the obvious hit me…

Darren is a dude! Clearly, he’s put himself in multiple situations where he participated in unprotected sex, where not only he could be producing babies but also the clap. He was clearly aware of his actions those nights when he laid up with those broads, so much so that he hasn’t categorically denied the idea that those are his children.

In the January 29th issue of The Morning News, it was reported that:

A Little Rock woman has filed a paternity suit in Pulaski County against former Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, claiming that the Heisman Trophy runner-up is the father of her nearly four-month-old daughter.

Tiffany Smith states in her motion that she believes McFadden is the biological father of her daughter, Trinity Nevaeh Smith, who was born Oct. 2, 2007. The motion was filed Jan. 18 in Pulaski County Circuit Court. [Source]

The sad shit: This isn’t the first paternity suit filed against an Arkansas athlete this year.

Earlier this year, Razorback sophomore basketball player Patrick Beverley, in a countersuit to his paternity suit, claimed that he was the father of his child and that he has a moral and legal obligation to be a part of this child’s life [Source]

Now, are all of these three women now claiming McFadden is the father of their children because they know he’s about to get a real fat check? Maybe. There will be no blog if it was not for the King of Kiddies, Shawn Kemp. Kemp had a solid NBA career, remembered for his days as a Supersonic. But Kemp’s legacy is more for his propensity to procreate than to score double-doubles.

Kemp has a league-leading 13 kids, 12 happen to be out-of-wedlock. There is a Shawn Kemp Jr., who allegedly is supposed to play at Kentucky like his dear old dad. Since this blog is predicated on research, I found some interesting things…

While Kemp was in Cleveland , he met Nikki Giavasis, who happened to be interested in studying to be a sports agent (figures …lol), and fathered her son. Kemp, of course, denied that he was father of the child, especially because those child-support checks would get pretty high. Giavasis took him to court, won and is owed $20,000 (damn) a month. He was paying $2,500/month previously to the court ruling. [Source]

Sad thing is, in 1999, Kemp did an interview with Jim Rome admitting he did “wrong” by having so many kids out of wedlock. Kemp claimed “The only thing I want to get out there is that I'm always going to handle my responsibilities. That's it. I said that since day one. I'm not a perfect person. In 2002, Shawn Kemp checked himself into rehab for cocaine abuse. Obviously, the mounting costs of child support played a role in his demise. Dude made a gang of money in Cleveland, which they are still paying off. Kemp gave birth to this blog, so honor is due.
